No 4th of July is complete without barbecue. It was too hot to cook out this year, so the entire family went to County Line. Set in an old lake lodge on Bull Creek, you can get there by car or by boat.

There were four of us, so we ordered the all-you-can-eat country style meal, with a choice of three meats, cole slaw, beans, potato salad and soft drinks. We decided on the sausage, chicken and extra moist brisket for our meats. They also have ham, extra lean brisket and beef ribs to choose from. This meal was a carnivore’s dream. The sausage was spicy, the brisket moist and delicious, and the chicken tender and tasty. I happen to LOVE barbecued chicken, so I tend to be picky about it. That said, I was very satisfied with the taste of County Line’s chicken. The breast was moist and I ate way too much of it. I took one bite each of the sides just to say I tasted them. They were good, but my taste buds were calling for some more brisket.

Out back, County Line has a patio and a walk along the water’s edge. Turtles of all sizes and large catfish are accustomed to being fed food that can be purchased from a machine for 25 cents. We didn’t want to disappoint the wildlife, so we joined the half a dozen children throwing food into the water. I’m just a kid at heart, after all!
