Richard’s Boudin & Seafood in Sulphur, LA

July 30, 2009. How can you not love a place with appetizers named gator gallops and mudbug riders. The hubster and I enjoyed lunch at Richard’s (pronounced Ree-shard’s) so much, we went back for dinner. Now that we’ve discovered Richard’s, we will go there for our seafood fix from now on!

Fried shrimp and crawfish at Richard's Boudin and Seafood

Richard’s has a wide varitey of fried and grilled seafood, as well as burgers, sandwiches and “peaux” boys — all at reasonable prices. And it’s a LOT of food. My fried crawfish and shrimp platter came with a fresh salad, french fries (or cole slaw) and jalapeno hush puppies. Everything is cooked when you order it so it’s fresh and flavorful. I also just had to try the gator gallops (see appetizers below if you want to know what these are).

Daily Special

Etouffee at Richard's Boudin and Seafood

Thursday’s special was a choice of BBQ, meatball stew or etouffee with two vegetables and a roll. The hubster had etouffee and there was plenty of it.

Look for the large crawfish on top of a red sign. Richard’s has two dining rooms. In addition to dining, Richard’s also sells boudin by the pound.

Appetizers

Menu at Richard's Boudin and Seafood

Angel oysters are oysters wrapped in bacon, battered and deep fried. Mudbug riders are crawfish wrapped in bacon, battered and deep fried. Gator Gallops? Yep. Alligator wrapped in bacon, battered and deep fried. What a treat!

This is the inside of the crawfish pistolette, a French roll stuffed with crawfish, celery, onions and creamy goodness.

Dessert

Lemon pie at Richard's Boudin and Seafood

There are three dessert choices — coconut pie, chocolate pie and lemon pie. This is 1/2 of the lemon pie, which was more than enough after a huge meal. The pie was light and tart. Just the way I like my lemon pie.
